This point is proven when you consider someone who played with crosman shotguns in their back yard for 6 years then played one high end op. Compared to a guy who had 1 year of back yard stuff then played organized games for 4 years. The guy who is pretty much a newb (the first guy) could brag that he is more experienced than the other guy because he's got more years. |

Yeah my first 5/6 years it was just a hobby. I dont like to count them as real experience. I started getting serious in high school....so ill say 3/4 years. |

Fair enough, and Nova makes a really good point. People count their back yard battles with spring pistols when they where 7 years old as experience and it's rediculous. Airsoft was a hobby for me at first too, but now it's a sport and a major part of my life. |

This is true Nova, but someone with what you said, take someone who has played 3 years of airsoft and has had 5+ years of real life combat training and combat. Who would have more experience then? The guy with with 6 years backyard 1 high end op or the guy with 1 year back yard 4 years organized play or the guy with 3 years organized play 5+ years combat training and real combat or a person who played 10 years of semipro paintball/speedball and 1 year airsoft? Just wondering where you draw the line? As far as I am concerned the poll asked for years of experience playing the sport, but what do you take into effect for playing the sport. "The more knowledge one has the more powerful one is." So what determines Knowledge pertaining to the sport? I personally think it depends on the type of game play you play at OPs. Meaning if you play Milsim then Real life combat experience would benefit greatly to an individual compared to a person who played paintball or speedball, but if you play what some fields call "CQB" (which in my opinion is not CQB) then I think the person with the paintball/speedball would have more experience. So my question again where do we DRAW the line?? |

Law enforcement and military members of course have experience that helps them in airsoft. That's where you draw the line. I believe that all players would benefit from attending upscale events regardless of their background. The player may be well seasoned to perform well on the field, but they would still be new to the airsoft system and possibly the community itself.

I agree with SSD's point. I got my first paintball gun in 1991 and have been playing what I refer to as "War games" ever since (and that doesn't include red rider bb guns in the back yard with neighbor kids). Speedball and tournament play are much different but scenario paintball or woodsball is much like milsim, you just had to use a different weapon back then. It all adds up to expirence in the field. And actual combat training of any degree from the military is worth its weight in gold in milsim. Just my opinion. |
