The Ak-47 is an assault rifle, and the M1/M14 is a battlerifle. I would take those off the list and put on the SKS. |

All of these guns are assault rifles...a tactical carbine is basically a semi-automatic rifle that can be used in a tactical role. I would put an SKS, but the magazine isn't removable. That generally isn't used in a 'tactical' role. |

Vegas: Technically Mazzur is correct that most of those could be classified as a carbine, they would have to be modified to fall into the carbine category. The only one that could not be a carbine is the M1/M14 even in it's SOCOM modification state it is still to long for CQB/CQC which it needs to be long since it is widely used as a DMR weapon. Mazzur: You are correct the SKS is not a carbine it is just a rifle. However as I state below carbines are shortened versions of their assault rifles, which all you have posted except one can fall into that category and that is the M1/M14. Personally I would have included the Steyr AUG, the HK G36k or G36c, and the M4 which is just the military version of the AR15 which is the civilian version (so to speak). Other than that good job on the Poll. For those who did not know: Many carbines, especially modern designs, were developed from rifles, being essentially shortened versions of full rifles firing the same ammunition, although often at a lower velocity. There have also been many cases where the carbine and rifle adopted by a particular nation were not technically related, such as using completely different ammunition or internal parts (though the carbine still being weaker, or of smaller size). Either may be more common, depending on the time period. The shorter length and lighter weight of carbines makes them easier to handle in close-quarter combat situations (such as urban or jungle warfare), or when deploying from vehicles. Carbines may have higher penetration capabilities than submachine guns while retaining standardized ammunition with rifles, unlike most current personal defense weapons, which use proprietary cartridges. The disadvantages of carbines, when compared with their longer counterparts, are generally poorer long-range accuracy and shorter effective range, while also generally being larger than submachine guns and thus harder to maneuver in close quarters. They are issued to specialized personnel (eg. special operations, mounted, supply, other non-infantry or infantry in special roles) whose roles deem a full-sized standard rifle as being prohibitive. For more info on Carbines look here. |

I agree with almost everything you said. Except in the civilian gun community a carbine is basically a semi-automatic rifle with detachable magazines. Its a fast reaction weapon for WROL situations or for law enforcement. Your right though, but i think carbine has two separate definitions. Let me rephrase it: Basically i'm asking what is your favorite/most effective tactical rifle. And i didn't add G36's or anything because for the most part only military uses them. You will almost never see a G36 in the civilian shooter world. This is for civilians for the most part (another thing i forgot to add).

Wow I see them a lot, at where I go to shoot. I do not agree with your statement about "Except in the civilian gun community a carbine is basically a semi-automatic rifle with detachable magazines." because since the Ban has been lifted you see more and more AR15s and other weapons that are "Safe-Semi-Full". Maybe you did not understand what I meant when I said the AR15 was the civilian version so to speak. I was referring to the fact that you don't see the AR abbreviation in the military since most weapon systems start with the M abbreviation that's all. I thought you were tailoring this towards military weapons, but I see your logic in the way you did it since most people who do not study military knowledge would recognize the AR15 over the M4 most likely. |

Well I figured since most airsoft players around here aren't in the military, but probably have civilian shooting backgrounds, i would put civilian weapons. And seeing a full auto AR/M4 would be sort of rare...they cost over $15k to buy

15k wow I don't know where you are shopping but that is a rip off. Most I have ever seen one for is 9k and that was for a tricked out Knight's Armament with a LaRue free float upper on it and optics. Granted the upper was at least 2500 and the optics on it were about a grand. |

For a fully auto AR-15? The price you named for something Larue is realistic though...lol |
