Here's something to think about:

Do you think that guns that were out 5 years ago were generally more reliable or less reliable than new models?

It depends on the brand. Some brands are hit or miss, some are always good, and others are just shitty. A JG from 5 years ago still sucks as much as a new JG. Some brands I believe have improved over the years, like G&G. Some like Systema and G&P have had rock-solid performance since they were created. Classic Army is a hit or miss. You either get a good gun or you don't.

We now believe my CA is at least 6 years old...

The 2007 and prior JG/E1s broke within a couple thousand rounds. They've at least tripled their reliability since then but still suck haha. Back in the day TM, ICS, and CA were the top tier at least among my 2006 and 2007 airsoft friends. G&G was only beginning to emerge as a top tier brand from our view. Electric blowback rifles and gas blowback rifles were unheard of. Now we got this whole Polarstar thing coming out. The markets have surely changed.

I hear a lot more people breaking their guns and having trouble nowadays than in the past. I agree with Nova about the TM/ICS/CA dominance thing. That was in my circle of players too. Nova and I both started with ICS guns.

The only ICS and TMs were such reliable guns. A lot of monderized brands have their flaws. Some are solid but even G&P and what not can't match the old ones. Keep in mind the oldies were 300-350fps so they might not wear out as fast.

I see what you're saying. I guess my gun is living proof of the oldies. I believe that airsoft guns are like cars....they used to be built like tanks, now not so much. Probably because the number of brands skyrocketed...

Whatever happen to TM anyway? I rarely hear of the brand.

Well their guns are 280-300fps and have plastic bodies and are priced like a G&G.

The only good thing is that they don't break (very much internally) but they just can't compare to modern guns. Their FAMAS hasn't been updated since its release in 1992 or so. They're outdated.

My weapon is extremely reliable. So is my secondary and sidearms. On another note my AEG that i loan out and got a while back when i first started playing airsoft is still working like new also. I think it depends on the care of the weapons and the persons luck might have something to do with it also (cough cough karma cough cough).

Yes SSD. You put a lot of cash into your gun and it payed off. But then theres a guy like Nova or some other people that will dump $1k into their gun for a state of the art platform and then 2 years later have to do a $260+ revamp on a platform where other problems are arising as well. The upkeep costs couldn't possibly have been so high but then again Novas gun is an old model dating back to the mid 2000s

Hmm. The whole idea of hit or miss has been around forever. In surfers case he was a hit because he gearbox is still rolling well past 50k rounds.

I think reliability is still the same. All those cool new things that have come out need to become more affordable before we consider them main stream.
