This is a topic for Real Life CQB Weapons of Choice. There's a debate here: Would it be better to take a submachine gun (eg MP5A4, etc) or a shortened rifle (eg M4 CQBR, etc)? |

I'm a rifle kind of guy. I'd be most comfortable with a shortened rifle than a submachine gun. I think the rifle rounds will penetrate body armor better. But if you had a UMP .45 or something, I'd imagine that it would hit harder. Not sure if it would go through the body armor though. |

Neither. I prefer a sidearm for CQB. If you must take a one though it would depend on your mission. If there are hostages involved the MP5 or a variant would work better since it is less likely to get a through and through with a pistol round. Rifle rounds have more penetrating power and you might not be able to take a shot since you have to know your target and what lies beyond. There could be a hostage in front of the target and one behind that you don't see right away then you have one tango down and one hostage down. If it is an elimination mission or just a snatch n grab then the M4 or some variant of rifle that takes a rifle style round would be better do to the fact that it does not matter much about who gets hit as long as your team is safe. Again like I said this question has multiple points you cannot decide which is the better weapon for CQB cause it all depends on the situation at hand. Different missions call for different weapons. This is why all Special Operations Teams have there pick of almost any weapon ever made. Some missions require you to use weapons not associated with the USA and others it does not matter what you take as long as the mission is accomplished and your team comes home safe. @Surfer: Good question though. I hope this helps clear somethings up for people about one of the many differences between Airsoft and the Real Life. I had a lot of fun with this question so keep them coming. |

I like the rifle idea too. The bullets probably fly nicer than the bulky pistol rounds. |

I'm comfortable with the MP5 in airsoft so I sort of prefer it for RL stuff too |

Isn't that funny. Well I'd take an M203 by itself in that case with a drum mag of shells and fully automatic. (ha) |

Good question...oh this is tough. My answer for any situation is it depends...I'd say either a MP5 or a MP7. A M4 would be ideal if the situation involves outdoor work as well as close quarters. But like SSD said, a sidearm is hard to beat if the situation suddenly turns into CQB. |

MP7 are cool. They're small and fire rifle bullets. |
