So a two weeks ago I heard about a new AEG SVD being put out by a company by the name of S&T. The AEG is based on the Real Sword SVD, however it has a few things that would seem to be of their own design.

About one week or so ago I ordered the S&T SVD from RSOV.com (As it is only available out of Hong Kong and other overseas places.) and it arrived at my doorstep today.

The S&T SVD is surprisingly well-built. Most parts are steel -- that's right! Steel. A few parts are pot metal but most of it is steel. The stock and hand guard are laminated wood like it's real-steel counterpart. The wood is so-so quality that I have come to expect from China. It is sanded adequately, however the wood stain leave much to be desired and the wood has some chips in corners at etc from seemingly being put together hastily?

The real treat when I opened the box was the fantastic finish on the body of the rifle. I was astounded at the quality of the finish. It was a very smooth flat black paint that is very durable (As I found out while weathering it.) and it just looks plain old nice, which probably makes the wood look worse.

Unfortunately I have yet to go shoot it so I can not speak to that as of yet. The rifle does NOT come (from RSOV or anywhere else yet) with a charger or battery, which means if you are planning on purchasing this gun get yourself a good-quality stick battery.

The battery compartment is in the handguard, which disassembles like the real-steel and the stick-type battery goes where the gas tube would on the real gun.

Below are some pictures of the gun as it came out of the box.

After I finished admiring the way the gun looked, I proceeded to beat the crap out of it.

I sanded down all the wood pieces to remove the dayglo orange finish the factory put on it and stained it a deep red by hand, and finished that with a beautiful lacquer coat to give it that classic Soviet shine.

After I finished the wood, I proceeded to weather the steel components, which was when I found out just how great that finish was. It took some fierce sanding and elbow-grease to get that sucker how I wanted it (Beat up and abused..... like it survived a nuclear war.....) and after several hours of work I got what I wanted out of it.... or off of it I should say.

Below is my (almost) finished product. I say almost finished because tomorrow or Sunday I will be chroming the bolt to make it more realistic.

Thanks for the compliments! I'll start work on weathering my AKS74U after Christmas and have pictures of that up as well. I never feel like an airsoft gun is mine until it looks like it's been through a war xD
