just a small idea: when i played down in North Carolina, and i know Francois has his events like this, but has anyone thought of a "player improvement" event?

something smaller and focused on safety, and ways to improve your game play?

suggestions? questions?

How would this proceed? Would it be like a normal event but with some discussion offered by the staff on certain topics or would there be an interesting gameplay part as well (as in there being some special things to do while out in the field)?

Intresting idea. When I look at the next event's roster and others before usually 95% of the attendees have attended a Polar98 op or similar milsim event before, and a good number of them have also have taken part in Lion Claws events. Before each op Nova also does a rules briefing as well.

However, some Polar98 staff have been running a youth op; one for players under the age of 16, and most of them have never been to a large-scale event before. Their mission is to get the players out of the backyard or paintball parks and into events where tactics are needed.

Now that vegas mentions it, Polar98s youth program (run mostly by Nova's bro) does some good working getting younger players a feel for what milsim is like and what kinds of rules there are. It's a good bridge to the real deal.

Then you are already doing it. When I was playing in NC, we had days set aside for the younger, less experienced or those wanting to learn. We broke down into groups. One day we did was all urban skills. One station was learning how to cross danger areas. Another was to defend a building. Another was on communication. Another good basic mini class taught was determing your effective range. We took a laser rangefinder and set out targets and shot at them. That gave you an idea of how far you could hit. This eliminated the "he's not calling his hits" calls made when the BBs were falling ten feet in front of his target. We went over safety at every one of these events just to make sure no one was missed. The nice thing about it was a lot of the instructors (myself included were not only veteran airsofters, but armed forces veterans as well. This gave the younger set a look into the armed forces that they were striving to emulate on the field.
