The title may be misleading, but with this post I want an conversation about the usage of rules at Polar98. I am not intending to offend or cause an arguement. The Polar98 staff is very lax with the rules (not saying that is a bad thing). Is that becuase of the lack of new and questionable players or a low number of players? The rules for the field are very defined and orgainized, however the events I have attended the main rules were touched on. That has worked during most of the events I have attended; I haven't seen really serious problems or people kicked off the field.

For example, the use of barrel blocking devices, entering and exiting buildings in ways other then using doors and steps, yelling "your hit" and safe words with hostage interaction.

I'm just pointing out that if someone else new actually read and memorized the rules and someone jumped out a window of a building (which I have done a lot) and the person says that's against the rules, what do would everyone do? Do the rules need tweaking?

Some rules are allowed to be lax because we have confidence that we can trust our event attendees with laxer rules so long as it is handled responsibly and does not jeopardize safety. On the enter/exit building rule, this is a matter of safety. If you jump over the side of a building and drop three feet this is usually tolerable as it is typically safe. If you jump out the window and drop eight feet we will not be happy.

The barrel blocking device policy is admittedly a loosely enforced policy. I personally use them and many others join me in that. We typically have not bothered players for lack of barrel blockers, but we enforce mag out/safety on (pretty trivial). Occasionally a player might forget to do this when coming into the safe zone and one of us will remind them. It is, however, a serious issue. Players are not allowed to fire in the safe zone. This is strongly enforced and we've not had any issues with it recently. Fortunately we've never had an incident of accidental shots fired in the safe zone due to lack of safety on and mag removal.

Safe words can be readily used, but their use has not been common. The use of them does not depend on Polar98 staff as much as it does a captured player.

Now for yelling at other players, we do enforce this in most cases and take action based on the severity. Generally a warning is all that is required but multiple offences in a day or over multiple ops can yield a suspension.

It seems there's a tradeoff. Example: FPS may lesser enforced than other fields but minimum engagement distance is stressed much more. Some fields I've been to have harsh fps regulations but really don't even talk about or enforce minimum engagement.
